Skiing in Courchevel 1550
CCourchevel Village, often referred to as Courchevel 1550, is a much prettier and quieter resort than the other areas in Courchevel. However, thanks to the excellent lift system in place you can get to Courchevel 1850 and the main ski area within one lift.
Courchevel 1550 Overview
The ski area directly serviced by 1550 is quite small. However, generally speaking the pistes are not the reason you holiday here, 1550’s main attraction is its rapid access to 1850.
For those who are feeling brave, there is also a 2km luge/tobogganing track between 1850 and 1550 which is open between 9am and 7:30pm and fully lit so you can sledge at night!
Skiing Around Courchevel 1550
There are two main lifts in Courchevel 1550, both found in the centre. The Grangettes Telecabine which takes you directly to La Croisette in Courchevel 1850 and the Tovets chairlift which also takes you to the centre of 1850.
Courchevel 1550 is made up of a few runs itself including 1 green, 3 blue and 2 red pistes. The green run is serviced by the free Roys lift in the centre of 1550.
Access to Other Areas
Thanks to the direct access Courchevel 1550 has to Courchevel 1850 it makes accessing the wider Courchevel and Three Valley ski area incredibly easy to access.
Courchevel 1850 & Courchevel Le Praz
As previously mentioned, Courchevel 1850 can be accessed via either the Grangettes or Tovets lift.
For Courchevel Le Praz, catch the Tovets chair out of 1550 and then follow the Amoureux or Brigues red pistes down into the centre of the resort.
Courchevel 1650
Catch the Grangettes telecabine up to 1850. From there, catch the Jardin Alpin bubble then ski to the Biollay chairlift. You will then need to follow along the Pralong and then Prameruel piste (both Blue) to the Roc Mugnier chairlift. From the top of Roc Mugnier, follow the signs down into 1650.
Courchevel La Tania
Catch either the Grangettes or Tovets lift up to 1850. From there, follow the green piste from La Croisette to the Plantrey chairlift. Then follow the blue Arolles piste until it joins the green Plan Fontaine or blue Folyeres piste (one of the teams favourite pistes). Both go down into La Tania.
Meribel
Again, you will first need to get up to 1850. From there, catch the Verdons telecabine (in La Croisette) and then either the Saulire or Vizelle telecabine. This takes you to the top of the Saulire mountain from which you can then ski into the various areas of Meribel.
You can also access Meribel Centre by just getting chairlifts. Catch the Tovets, then ski down to the Plantrey chairlift. You will then need to follow the blue Arolles piste down to the Dou Des Lanches chairlift, this takes you up to Col de la Loze from which you can ski into Meribel Centre.
From Meribel you can then easily access Val Thorens within 2/3 lifts.
You can also access Meribel Centre by just getting chairlifts. Catch the Tovets, then ski down to the Plantrey chairlift. You will then need to follow the blue Arolles piste down to the Dou Des Lanches chairlift, this takes you up to Col de la Loze from which you can ski into Meribel Centre.
From Meribel you can then easily access Val Thorens within 2/3 lifts.
Ski School Meeting Points
There are some ski school meeting points in Courchevelk 1550 by the Grangettes telecabine. Alternatively, you can catch the telecabine up to 1850 where the vast majority of ski schools meet.
Best Area for Children and Beginners
The Roys lift is free and services a small green piste ideal for beginners to build up there confidence. The Grangettes telecabine can also be used to take advantage of the childrens areas in Courchevekl 1850 and at the end of the day you can catch the telecabine back down if you would rather not ski.
